Celebrating 20 Years of Excellence: The Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago
The Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT) proudly celebrates its 20th anniversary as the nation’s principal body for conducting and advising on the accreditation and recognition of post-secondary and tertiary educational and training institutions, programmes and awards. Established as a statutory body by Act Chapter 39:06 of the Laws of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on July 09, 2004 and officially launched in November, 2005, ACTT has been a cornerstone in the development of the post-secondary and tertiary education (PSTE) sector in Trinidad and Tobago.
Governed by a dedicated Council and staffed by a cadre of professionals, ACTT ensures the quality and integrity of higher education through the rigorous processes of registration, accreditation and recognition of institutions and programmes. Our commitment is to foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement within the higher education landscape.
ACTT plays a vital role in driving social and economic development in alignment with the Education Policy 2023-2027. Since its inception, ACTT has worked closely with educational institutions, providing them with the necessary guidance and information to meet the standards required for registration, accreditation and recognition. Our focus is on empowering these institutions to embed robust quality assurance mechanisms within their structures, ensuring that their activities are continually informed by best practices.
Throughout its 20-year journey, ACTT has been dedicated to actively promoting to the public the importance of enrolling in registered, accredited, or recognised institutions. ACTT participates in career fairs in order to connect with prospective PSTE students and their families and encourage the critical evaluation of educational options before enrolment decisions are made. To support this effort, ACTT maintains a comprehensive Compendium of Institutions. This invaluable resource assists stakeholders who want to research potential PSTE institutions and programmes and increase the likelihood of enrolment at reputable, recognised schools that best meet their educational, career and professional goals, while eliminating the risk of being defrauded by diploma and/or accreditation mills.
Additionally, ACTT hosts a variety of workshops and conferences that address pertinent topics and trends in higher education. These events provide valuable platforms for knowledge-sharing and professional development, further reinforcing our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of education and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the sector.
As we commemorate this significant milestone, ACTT reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the higher education sector to ensure that our educational institutions remain pillars of quality and innovation and guide our nation towards a more educated future.
