The Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT) is the nation’s principal body for conducting and advising on the accreditation and recognition of post secondary and tertiary educational and training institutions, programmes and awards. ACTT was established as a body corporate by Act Chapter 39:06 of the Laws of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in 2004 and the organisation was launched in November, 2005.
The establishment of ACTT has transformed the higher education landscape in Trinidad and Tobago. ACTT was instituted to regulate the sector, which plays a key role in the development of a creative and productive workforce and an articulate, resilient and empowered citizenry capable of transforming the society and securing the future of the nation. ACTT’s key functions include:
- Conferment of institutional title
- Registration of higher education institutions
- Accreditation of higher education institutions and programmes
- Recognition of foreign qualifications and awarding bodies
- Programme approval
Governed by a Board of Directors and staffed by a cadre of professionals, ACTT is a key player in the development of the post secondary and tertiary education and training sectors in Trinidad and Tobago. ACTT assures the quality and integrity of higher education through the registration, recognition and accreditation of institutions and programmes.

ACTT is focussed on increasing awareness of the importance of quality assurance in tertiary education and facilitating the exchange of ideas among key stakeholders. We remain committed to making information easily accessible to the public via such avenues as career fairs, conferences, panel discussions, workshops and other events in collaboration with local and international partners, to highlight higher education and quality assurance issues.
